At this spring’s designer shows, we saw designers softening up traditional sharp tailoring and redefining what suiting means. They’re creating wardrobes for the modern professional who wants to look polished but still comfy and chic. The perfect outfit for today’s working woman is shifting toward a more relaxed and minimalist vibe, borrowing ideas from menswear. Oversized suits are leading the charge, and we see softer edges, slouchy trousers, and even silky suit shorts everywhere! Just look at the collections from Dries Van Noten, Stella McCartney, and Carven for inspiration.
This fresh approach was also on display at Ferragamo, Gabriela Hearst, and Stella McCartney, where they showcased slouchy trench coats with elegant pumps and structured bags. The Row, Bottega Veneta, Christopher Esber, and Saint Laurent introduced the “soft power” look with oversized suits and cool accessories like statement eyewear and chic cuff bracelets. Victoria Beckham and Saint Laurent highlighted loose jackets and trousers, creating office-ready outfits that looked effortless. Blazers at Toteme and Tory Burch were super chic, featuring cute cinching details at the waist. Meanwhile, Jacquemus and Peter Do had full, flowing skirts that moved beautifully—goodbye pencil skirts! Simone Bellotti suggested nipped-in peplum shapes with drop shoulders at Bally, while Stella McCartney embraced that oversized ‘80s vibe. Tory Burch wowed us with a collarless, belted look, and Blazy took things to a fun, exaggerated level at Bottega.
I also love power dressing with a rebellious twist! The Spring 2025 collections from Coach, Prada, Rabanne, and Willy Chavarria inspire me. This awesome mix of styles and eras led to a year of self-expression and redefined fashion norms, as fashion magazines call a “power-rewired” aesthetic. You’ve got to have pieces like baggy jeans, tailored trousers with a front crease, hourglass blazers, and playful hot pants!
As for the look I’m rocking in these photos, I’ve tried to embrace this trend! My statement piece is a fabulous vintage Chanel bag, paired with trendy earrings and simple heels, keeping it chic. I’ve been obsessed with burgundy since fall, and I truly believe it’s the perfect shade to elevate any outfit. While I don’t think it’ll be a big trend this spring like it was in fall and winter, I’m sure it’ll make a comeback next fall, and I’ve already got a few great pieces ready to style when it does.
