Hi loves! This post features my 3rd and 4th days in Tulum which I visit the Ancient Mayan Ruins in Tulum and Coba. I suggest reading Part 1 before reading this post.
Day 3: We started the day early by watching the sunrise. It was magically pretty. I am not an early riser but it was definitely worth it in Tulum. Later on it started raining – There’s a rainforest in Tulum so it rains a lot but it’s still super pretty – we hang out in the villa for a bit and left to go the Mayan Ruins.
I wore a light, breezy and aztec printed colorful top and a pair of pink jean shorts. When sightseeing in summer, you have to make sure you dress light, comfortably and of course fun.
We drove to the village in Tulum and then took the Boca Paila road that goes to the beach. This road is where all of the cool and hip restaurants and boutique hotels are located. We hang out at the beach, looked at the some of the shops and had food at Casa Banana, a cute and egzotic restaurant. They only accept cash though, which is a very typical of the restaurants in Tulum. After our late lunch, we drove to the ruins which is at the north end of Boca Paila. The ruins were very cool, I felt like I was in a Game of Thrones set. This city is very unique because it is the only Mayan city built on the coast and also one of the few Mayan cities protected by a wall. The city was a seaport, trading mainly in turquoise and jade. The elegant setting on sheer limestone cliffs above the turquoise splendour of the crashing Caribbean gives this place a paradise look. You walk through a rain forest entering the ruins. You can see egzotic animals -we saw a spider monkey! and hear lots of different types of birds singing. I can go on and on about this place but I want to this keep post short so if you like history and nature, please please go see this place. You will not regret it.
After the ruins, we went to a grocery store in Tulum to buy some fruits and fresh fish to cook dinner. We were planning to snack on the ceviche we made at our villa and then go out for dinner but the ceviche was so good that we ate a lot and decided to stay at the villa and chill. While we were eating, it started raining again, a storm came up and the power went out. We decided to make the most of the romantic rain and took a walk on the beach. We saw a big group of people circled around something and whispering. We then found out that there was a big sea turtle giving birth right there! We knew our beach was called ‘the turtle beach’ but we never thought we would be lucky enough to witness a sea turtle giving birth to 100 babies! Sea turtles don’t like any sort of light so only certain lights that the volunteers using were allowed. We learned a lot about sea turtles from the volunteers and it was an experience I will never forget.
